TEACH ME TO LISTEN, LORD :-
teach me to listen, lord
to those nearest me
my family, my friends, my co-workers
help me to be aware that
no matter what words i hear
the message is,
'Accept the person i am, listen to me.'
teach me to listen, lord
to those far from me
the whisper of the hopeless
the plea of the forgotten
the cry of the anguished .
Teach me to listen, lord
to myself
help me to less afraid
to trust the voice inside
in the deepest part of me.
Teach me to listen, lord
for your voice
in busyness and in boredom
in certainty and in doubt
in noise and in silence
teach me to listen, lord
TEACH ME TO LISTEN , LORD
TEACH ME TO LISTEN , LORD
TEACH ME TO LISTEN ,LORD

ABOUT THE POEM
We know the difference between hearing and listening . it is widely accepted that , listening is a skill that is acquired though dedication and practice. It is said that a good person is invariably a good listener . the poem, in the from of prayer , tells us to be good listeners .
we should begin by listening to those who are the nearest. we may find out that, although they do not speak it aloud yet they all want our attention and recognition .
The poem tells u s to heed the voices, which may not be within our earshot! they are the voices of people who are oppressed, who are suffering and who cannot tell us their woes. we should reach them and listen to their plea.
conscience is the inner voice that warns us against a sinful deed. it distinguishes between what is right and what is wrong. When we do wrong we suppress this voice. We should , instead , trust it and listen to it.
Finally , the poet wants us to listen to God's voice which guides us every where and at all times .
